It’s a Jungle Out Here by Nichola Ahlers

The title ‘It’s a Jungle out Here’ represents the beautiful wild flora and fauna residing in the area where Nichola lives: some cute, some a bit crazy and some just purely for their beauty.

Having spent half her life in the city living under majestic Mt Taranaki, and the other half in the country under the mists of Mt Pirongia, Nichola feels a great connection to the mountains and gets a lot of her inspiration for her art from the wild creatures both feathered and fury, and plants that live within the realms of these peaks. Inspiration for this series has also come from the wildlife in the ‘Jungle’ of Te Pahu where she has lived on her husband’s family dairy farm for 14 years.

Needing a reason to sit still after a running injury two years ago, Nichola thought art might be the best therapy. She has now found a new passion in coloured pencil, and although new to the art world, is enjoying, and addicted to, the creativity.
