Diane Scott: New Wall Drawings

Seeing the work as both image and object, Diane Scott questions the hierarchies and the givens that comprise painting, in particular elevating the chosen material from support to object. Scott explores what the object makes visible through process, materiality and sensation. Seeking spaces that oscillate from one state to another - simultaneously questioning and withholding, and resisting a singular reading.
The search for this enigma becomes a vital part of the work.

With her newest wall works Scott is looking to upscale her own drawings, using paint mixed with graphite in bold broad strokes as a link to pencil on paper. Based around theories shared by famous artist Sol Le Witt, who also created large geometric wall works as an upscaling of drawing on paper.

New Zealand artist Diane Scott has exhibited widely throughout Australia and New Zealand since 2001 and has been included in more than 40 curated exhibitions as well as being selected as a finalist for the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award in Whakatane, and the New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Award and was the winner of the Glaister Ennor Masters Graduate Award in 2012. Scott studied at the Elam school of Fine Arts, University of Auckland and was awarded her BFA (Hons) in 2011 and Master of Fine Arts (First Class Honours) in 2012. Her work is held in numerous collections in New Zealand and Europe including the Curiat Collection, Auckland, the James Wallace Trust, Auckland, the Peter Hanenberger Collection, Germany and the V8 Headquarters, Paris, France.
