Allegheny Chamber Choir
On May 20 Mercury Bay Community Choir is teaming up with Creative Mercury Bay to bring Pennsylvanian choral director Dr James Niblock back to town along with his highly accomplished Allegheny College Chamber Choir for a concert at 7pm in the Crossroads Church, Whitianga . The concert promises to be of international quality with a varied program of traditional and modern music and the visiting choir of 19 young singers aged 19 -22 will combine with the local Community Choir for two of the performance pieces.
James Niblock is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Allegheny College, Pennsylvania, where he leads five choral ensembles and teaches applied vocal studies. The Mercury Bay Community Choir along with local students and other singers from the District, have worked with James for three highly successful massed choir events (in 2008, 2011 and 2015) and because of that special relationship, the chamber choir is adding Whitianga to its tour of the North Island’s main centres. This is the first time James has brought one of his choirs on tour to New Zealand (other Allegheny choirs have toured widely in North America and Europe).
“There’s a great sense of excitement and anticipation about this visit and a number of singers are returning to the choir especially for the chance to sing with James again" said Kate Nielsen, MBCC’s choral director.
