The 2017 National Band of New Zealand - In Concert
Come and hear New Zealand's finest brass and percussion musicians just days before they embark overseas on a comprehensive concert and contesting tour to Hong Kong and Europe.
The National Band showcases New Zealand's best brass and percussion players and its unique brass repertoire at international concert and contest events. The National Band is formed periodically for specific purposes by auditioning top players throughout New Zealand. It is truly a New Zealand representative band. It was first formed in 1953 and has a considerable record of international success since then.
Under the musical baton of Nigel Weeks, the National Band has been invited to compete at the World Music Contest to be held Kerkrade, the Netherlands in July 2017. Over two days, the band will present two programmes - firstly a set test piece newly composed by Oliver Waespi then on the second day, a 40-minute own choice programme featuring a newly commissioned major work by Peter Graham in memory of iconic New Zealand brass bandsman, Kevin Jarrett. See Hamilton City Brass' own representatives in the band - Mason Elliot on solo cornet and Sergio Marshall on tenor horn.
Join New Zealand's National Band for an evening of exceptional music - this is a concert not to be missed!
