Hamilton City Council in conjunction with the University of Waikato and its Conservatorium of Music, are proud to present the “Mayor’s Music Matinee Series” - a series of lunchtime concerts to be held on the second Friday of every month from 1.00pm (45-50mins in duration). The concerts will take place at Creative Waikato on Alexandra Street in Hamilton. Free admission

Programme details to follow each month

This Friday's concert will be given by three of the outstanding Finalists of the University of Waikato Concerto Competition.

Joanna Dann Saint Säens Cello Concerto
Rachel Twyman: Mozart Violin Concerto No 5 in A major
Bethany Angus: Haydn Cello Concerto No 1 in C major

These instrumentalists were selected from the preliminary round of the University Concerto Competition on 28 July and will play their full concertos with the University Orchestra in our orchestral Gala Concert at the University on 17 September, along with the other finalist cellist James Yoo.

Audience members will be treated to excerpts from these concertos, some of the great music written for violin and cello, in outstanding and very touching performances by these gifted young musicians. The orchestral reductions will be played on piano by our stellar accompanist Francis Cowan.
