Weasel Gallery welcomes Aaron Scythe for our fourth exhibition of the year, 浮かんできた To Float.
In this, his first show with Weasel Gallery, we present a series of Scythe’s digital paintings. This will be the first time Scythe has solely exhibited his painting works (without accompanying ceramic work). Primarily influenced by Ukiyo-e (literally translated as “pictures of the floating world”) and Shunga (“spring pictures”), Scythe illustrates a playful irreverence to the subject matter that contemporizes the traditional Japanese painting form.
Scythe resided in Japan for 16 years before returning to New Zealand. Scythe has enjoyed over 60 major international solo shows to date, and his work is held in many significant collections throughout New Zealand, Japan, Europe and America.
Join us for the exhibition opening of 浮かんできた To Float on Thursday 11 April from 5-7pm, at Weasel Gallery.
