An environment to be explored with a calculated collection of paintings and objects. A playful exploration of transparency, layer, space, light and form. The work invites an experiential viewing with big jumps in scale between tiny paintings, sculptural pieces, and large, encompassing works.
Rachel Peary’s paintings are meticulously crafted, with the surface and frame carefully made to be objects in their own right. The painted elements are then added to explore and interact with the transparency, the exposed components of the frame, and their banal yet beautiful function. The works are challenging common conventions in contemporary abstract painting and destabilise our expectations of a painting and exhibition.
