Painting the Ephemeral with Gage Opdenbrouw

Painting workshop
Plein air work to gather information for studio painting

Join Gage in this workshop where he will focus on painting quick studies outdoors on location in the morning, and then break for lunch and continue to digest our observations and craft our responses in the studio.

There will be a figurative component to the workshop that will involve painting from the model as well as your own, personal photos of people.

We will discuss the pros and cons of using drawings and photos as references to further develop ideas first explored in the field. Added discussions will focus on narrative and imagination and the importance of how they correlate to drive and support an image to completion.

And of course we'll look at the greats in art history and contemporary artists for inspiration and answers.

This workshop is open to all levels but is best for intermediate to advanced painters, ie: those with at least a few years of experience and practice.

Tuition will include a ‘slide’ lecture and discussion, as well as demonstrations, and Gage always work alongside the students. Gage will be working in oil but you are welcome to work in any media you choose.

The workshop will be limited to 10 participants to ensure individual attention and includes:

• 4 day workshop with Gage Opdenbrouw
• Plein air tuition mornings
• Studio painting afternoons
• Access to a private model
• Use of private studio and adjacent space
