On Saturday 26th November The Riff Raff Public Art Trust and its Embassy Park Working Group are keen for performers and musicians of all kinds to claim Embassy Park as their own and to use it for busking, experiments, activism, celebration, whatever!

International Judge Impressed with New Zealand Ceramics8 November, 2016

Looking to be surprised and moved, internationally-recognised Australian ceramicist and teacher Janet DeBoos found what she was looking for when selecting this year’s finalists for the annual Portage Ceramic Awards. Including five ceramic artists from the Waikato.

Convened by West Auckland’s Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery for the past 15 years, DeBoos had a challenging job deciding who would make the final cut from among the more than 200 entries received in 2016.

Entries Close Soon for Molly Morpeth Canaday Award - painting and drawing8 November, 2016

The annual Molly Morpeth Canaday Award for painting and drawing is officially open for 2017 entries, offering $20,000 worth of prizes, including a $10,000 major award sponsored by the Molly Morpeth Canaday Fund.

Entries close 16 December, 2016. 

The vision for the awards is to encourage and celebrate the development of painting and drawing on a national level and reward artists who create outstanding works for this  non-acquisitive award.

The Second Outsider Art Fair, set to take over Auckland’s CBD8 November, 2016

More days, artists, galleries and businesses are involved in the second Outsider Art Fair, taking over Auckland’s CBD from 17 to 26 November and reaching further into the community.

The New Zealand Outsider Art Fair 2016 aims to promote and celebrate the art of self-taught artists and artists outside the mainstream art world.

Council candidate opens hoardings for graffiti - by artists 7 October, 2016

Most campaigning candidates try to avoid graffiti on their hoardings in the lead-up to an election.

Not Nick Johnston.

The Hamilton City Council candidate has asked illustrators to draw on his, although a joker with a marker pen had taken to a Hillcrest sign before the invitation went out. Johnston became "the chosen one" with a Harry Potter-esque scar on his forehead.

"I've decided to keep that one up."

Head over to Heaphy Terrace and there's a sign that shows the East Ward candidate looking like Batman's brother.

That's the work of Hamilton-based Craig McClure, who is inspired by American comic books and cartoons.

We are well underway with the Artillery workshops being delivered throughout the Waikato region. Creative Waikato is being supported by Creative New Zealand to deliver the FREE creative development workshop series.
