Deconstructed (Breakdown) Screen Printing
Join us for a fun weekend of impressive Printing. The results are very organic and dimensional. You can have a general plan or go completely freestyle, as the end results will largely be unknown, with unexpected gorgeous patterns.
The workshop is held in the large sunny Memorial Hall, Galileo St, Ngaruawahia.
We’ll start the weekend making our own 3 screens. Then using a prepared dye printing paste, we’ll apply textures to the screen. The texture impressions can be made with anything that will leave a pattern ie plants, string, lace, paper clips etc or even just blobs and strips of dye. Once these are dry, we’ll apply plain printing paste to “breakdown” the textures.
You can make many prints off the same screen, as individual prints or overlapped for whole cloth fabric.
Using a base of cotton fabric, we’ll use a variety of ways of applying the dye textures and “breakingdown” them down. Once the texture has been “brokendown” the screens can be re textured ready for more printing.
After being shown the techniques, you'll then be unleashed onto a bountiful amount of dye and paste to play. There is no wrong way to breakdown the texture, it’s all just experimentation and fun.
Everything is supplied for your printing. But you may like to bring other natural fabrics and a variety of textures to try.
Once printed the fabric is bundled up and left to sweat over night before rinsing out the next day.
The fabric can then be used as art on its own, as backgrounds for stitching or adding to or photographed for paper prints.
Maximum of 20 participants with a table each to spread out.
Total cost is $95. The deposit $55, or you can pay total amount, is due now. Contact me for bank details.
The remaining balance is due by the 2nd Sept
