Print Outside the Box, Gemma Reid
Print Outside the Box, Gemma Reid

Gemma’s workshop will take you through creating a collagraph or drypoint print and on to fashioning a free-standing object.

It will be suitable for experienced printmakers and complete beginners. Register interest with Julie at wsa@wsa.org.nz

Originally from Auckland Gemma Reid completed a BFA in Printmaking at Elam School of Fine Arts.

Having lived overseas for 20 years, Gemma returned to Aotearoa in 2019 and settled with her family in Kirikiriroa. Primarily working as a printmaker, Gemma has a particular interest in intaglio methods.

This print practice is augmented by a variety of creative methods. Working overseas, without access to a print studio, this experience resulted in the exploration and development of a working practice using intaglio methods that are achievable without a traditional studio set up.

Reintroduced to the clear light peculiar to Aotearoa, Gemma’s printmaking takes her strong drawing practice on a journey to further develop particular elements of her environment.

Allowing the light to flatten space results in dynamic and stimulating compositions with a strong emphasis on pattern informed by the architectures of the Waikato.
