Creative Waikato and Waikato District Council have teamed up to spotlight some of the incredible groups who make community creativity happen every day in the Waikato District.

One of the ten District Councils operating in the wider Waikato region, the Waikato District Council serves in communities including Raglan, Huntly, Ngāruawāhia, Tuakau and Te Kauwhata, Gordonton, Matangi, Tamahere, Meremere, Port Waikato and Pōkeno.

The Council’s vision:
Liveable, Thriving and Connected Communities
He noohanga aahuru, he iwi whai ora, he hapori tuuhono tahi

From markets to environmental action groups, sculptures to tourism, and everything in between, the Waikato district is rich with community-centred creative activity, and creatively-driven community mahi, enabled by the tireless work of community groups.

Since the launch of this collaboration in January, the Creative Waikato crew, in collaboration with the Waikato District Council Community team have been on the road. Meeting people in their places, connecting, listening to kōrero, taking photos and weaving stories.

These stories, which will be released in the second half of this year, so far feature: a board-tredding pony, saplings and grubbers, bingo karaoke, and weekend market delights.

Stay tuned for these stories, and keep an eye out for the CW team on the road, as we continue to spotlight some of the diverse and transformative creativity activity that makes Waikato thrive.
