Celebrating Waikato’s Creative Hidden Gems

The Waikato region is alive with the vibrant hum of creativity, filled with diverse artists and storytellers who shape and connect our communities in remarkable ways.

From painters to performers, writers to raranga artists, and more, our communities are brimming with people who use their creativity to tell stories, build connections and make our region an exciting and colourful place to live. Through our Creativity Lives in Waikato campaign, we shine a spotlight on this incredible diversity, celebrating the people and projects that bring creativity to life in our local spaces.

We’ve hit the road, meeting talented individuals, capturing moments of inspiration and witnessing how creativity lights up our region. Today, we launch the next chapter: a series of stories and portraits profiling 38 extraordinary Waikato creatives, each doing amazing work in their communities.

From studios to community halls, sheds to gallery spaces, these profiles showcase the depth and richness of creative talent across Waikato. Whether in a quiet corner where creative work begins or a lively space where culture thrives, we’ve found these artists wherever creativity flows.

Explore our gallery and discover the incredible stories of local artists and creatives doing amazing mahi!

In the coming weeks, we’ll continue highlighting their work and stories on our social media. Each profile captures not just the art they create but the heart and spirit behind it.

But we’re not stopping here—Creativity Lives in Waikato is an ongoing celebration and we want you to join us!

Whether you’re an artist, maker or supporter of the arts, share your own creative story with us. What does creativity mean to you? What do you love most about the Waikato arts community? Who inspires you in your creative circles?
