Imagining Futures Together Handbook

As we hit the end of term three, we have been thinking of our region’s teachers. They balance all things curriculum and wellbeing and create spaces for learning and growth. We hope they find space for rest and recuperation amongst the mahi, planning and pondering that we know our educators continue to do throughout the teaching break. To help inspire and support teachers in their everyday mahi,  we have created a short and friendly handbook that explores how creativity can be threaded through all subject areas.

Introducing Imagining Futures Together – a handbook designed to provide a range of ‘ways in’ for all teachers: for the creativity-curious, for the ‘ex-creative’ looking for ways to re-engage, or for seasoned creatives looking for reminders and encouragement.

The wellbeing of kaiako and akonga –teachers and learners– is at the heart of this handbook, and it provides a range of short and simple activities and tips for out-of-the box creative thinking.

We demystify the creative process, and offer creativity as a tool for shifting mindset, supporting student retention and classroom connection, and encouraging innovation.

There are tips for how to talk about creative work, and how to include creative play in your day with as little as 30 seconds and a post-it-note.

Whether you are looking for permission to be more creative in the classroom, you have forgotten how to play, or you feel that you aren’t creative so don’t feel comfortable doing these kinds of things, this handbook is here to support you.

Imagining Futures Together is a celebration of our teachers, and of the value of creativity.

Check it out here, and add some joyful tools to your kete.

Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro nōnā te ngahere, ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga nōnā te ao
The bird that consumes the miro berry, owns the forest. However, the bird that consumes learning, owns the world
